With flood situation in the city having improved, e-commerce major Flipkart said it has resumed delivery operations.

Flipkart’s Director – Last Mile Operations, Neeraj Aggarwal said the company has taken up a “phase wise approach” as the conditions in the city have “improved”.

“The heavy rains and widespread flooding in this region called for the stalling of our delivery operations here, given that the safety of our delivery staff never ceases to remain our top priority,” he told PTI.

“We are currently fulfilling orders which piled up during the period when we had shut operations,” he said.

Chennai and rest of Tamil Nadu constitute about 10 per cent of sales volume for Flipkart.

“In the next couple of days, we will be delivering full scale to all our customers in these regions”, he said.

Meanwhile, another e-commerce major Amazon India has said that it is yet to resume operations in the region.

“Due to inclement weather conditions, deliveries to areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Andhra Pradesh have been temporarily suspended,” the notification said.

Chennai and its surrounding areas witnessed record rainfall over last week.

Supply of essential commodities like milk, food took a hit due to the heavy downpour and subsequent flooding.
