Income tax return: Do super senior citizens have to file returns?

Income tax return, Income tax return for senior citizens, Do super senior citizens have to file income tax returns, tds, all about income tax returns

My father is over 90 years of age and has income from pension, interest on fixed deposits and savings account. His total income is Rs 2 lakh per annum. He has no TDS refund claim. Is he required to file income tax return?

–Pranav Kumar

There is a requirement for individuals to furnish I-T return, if total income exceeds the maximum amount which is not charge-able to income tax. An individual qualifying as ordinarily resident also has to furnish return of income if he holds any foreign asset including any financial interest even if income is less than the threshold limit. An individual may need to file his return, if he wants to carry forward a loss or wants to claim a refund of excess taxes paid. In this case, your father being a super senior citizen whose income is below chargeable limit (i.e. Rs 5 lakh) and with no refund to claim, foreign assets or other sources of income (other than pension, FD and savings interest), is not required to file the return.

I am facing problems in logging into my e-filing account. I registered but forgot my user ID & password. I have sent mails to the department to register my email id, but there is no response. What should I do?

– Sankar Kumar
