SC asks Mysore lab to submit report on lead levels in Maggi

SC asks Mysore lab to submit report on Maggi in 8 weeks

The Supreme Court asked Mysore lab to clarify whether test reports relating to lead and glutamic acid in Maggi are within permissible parameters under the law

Expressing concern over the quality of Maggi noodles, the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked Mysore lab to clarify whether test reports relating to lead and glutamic acid in Maggi are within permissible parameters under the law.

The apex court asked the lab to submit its report within the time-frame of eight weeks.

“The entire exercise has to be carried out within eight weeks,” the court said.

The court’s directive came in view of the appeal filed by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) against the Bombay High Court’s August 13 verdict, which had lifted the nationwide ban on nine variants of the fast food.

The Supreme Court on December 16 had asked for the testing of samples of Maggi noodles in Mysore laboratory.
