Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Roy’ box office collections hit Rs 10 crore mark

Ranbir Kapoor-Jacqueline Fernandez starrer ‘Roy’ box office collections have shot off to a good start with Rs 10.4 crore. The movie’s opening day business is the biggest of the year, beating Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’, which made Rs 9.3 crore.

As expected ‘Roy’, which also features Arjun Rampal, opened with good occupancy rate in the multiplexes and turned out some good numbers at single screens too. One of the most anticipated films, this romantic thriller is expected to have a good showing on Saturday because of Valentine’s Day but Sunday could be a downer because of the India-Pakistan match at the Cricket World Cup.

Ranbir Kapoor’s last major film ‘Besharam’ had opened at Rs 21.56 core while his biggest hit ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ minted Rs 19.45 crore on Day 1. Jacqueline Fernandez’s record is Rs 26.40 crore from the hit movie ‘Kick’ with Salman Khan.

After a slew of underperforming films in the beginning of the year, this week we saw the release of two starkly different films, ‘Roy’ and ‘MSG: The Messenger of God’ whose box office collections journey is expected to take starkly different routes. The latter features Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan (Guru ji), who incidentally has a massive following of devotees in northern territories.
