Verlander Shows Improvement in Latest Rehab Start
The Detroit Tigers finally ended their lengthy losing streak last night, and more good news may be on the way. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander, who’s missed the entire 2015 season to this point, looked strong in his most recent rehab start, and may soon be on his way back into the Detroit rotation.
Pitching for Triple-A Toledo, Verlander threw 93 pitches over 5.2 innings, allowing only one unearned run on four hits, while striking out nine Columbus Clippers.
“Control was much better today,” Verlander told the Associated Press, referring to his previous rehab start, in which the right-hander allowed three runs on six hits and two walks. “I felt like for the most part I was able to hit my spots, get ahead of guys and execute my pitches much better,” Verlander added.
With the team struggling of late, and losers of eight of their last ten, the Tigers have fallen into third place in the American League Central. However, Verlander made sure to highlight the importance of taking his time in his return to avoid further injury. While there’s still no timeline for Verlander’s return to the Detroit staff, this latest start is an encouraging sign that it may come sooner than later.
