Penthouse on Millionaire’s Row for sale for $5.95 million

The property has large outdoor areas along with formal living and dining and a wraparound balcony.

A penthouse on the Gold Coast’s prestigious Hedges Avenue is for sale for $5.95 million, as the owner’s daughter wants a dog.

Prominent Gold Coast businesswoman Sandra Cowell has listed her Mermaid Beach home through Michael Kollosche of Kollosche Prestige Agents, and is hoping  to build a waterfront house in the same area.

Ms Cowell said she made the decision to move for her 15-year-old daughter, Julia.

“She’s been bugging me for years to have pets,” she said. Pets are allowed in the complex, but she didn’t feel it was kind to keep one in their apartment. Ms Cowell also felt it was time for the close family to have more space as Julia comes to the end of her school years.

Ms Cowell works in family companies that include the thoroughbred horse-racing industry, with successful stables including famed Waverley Park lodge, Pimpama, Ascot lodge on the Gold Coast, and Ascot Rose Hill.

She bought the apartment in 2005 for $4,485,000 and selected the home’s finishings including the chandeliers, polished hardwood floors, stone walls and feature wallpaper, making it unique in the boutique complex.

“I wanted to mix contemporary with traditional. It has a very inviting, warm feeling.”

The apartment has a private glass elevator, which travels to the home’s outdoor entertaining area – an “oasis” with a pool, spa, steam room, full kitchen and living spaces.

The two main bedrooms of the three-bedroom property have ensuites and custom built-in wardrobes, and views of the park and the ocean.

“There’s nothing [else] like it on the Gold Coast, nothing on this level that’s this big, big outdoor areas, big rooms, formal living and dining, big wraparound balcony. It’s fantastic,” said Ms Cowell.

Despite all these features, Ms Cowell said one of her favourite aspects of the north-facing home is the views – the mountains, city skyline, park and ocean, which “can never be built out”.

The low-rise penthouse is a five-minute walk from the recently updated Pacific Fair, home to high-end brands including Gucci, Prada and Hermes. It’s also close to Broadbeach’s high-end eateries, cementing the Hedges Avenue reputation as an “exclusive area”.

It’s also 100 metres from the beach, and the local Surf Live Saving club is just three blocks away.

Ms Cowell said she and her daughter love the area, and Julia’s school and sports commitments are nearby so she plans on staying as close as possible.

“It’s the whole area, we love the area, all the cafes,” she said.
