Tony winner to hold gala to help low-income theatre students

Tony-winning director Kenny Leon is holding a gala to bring awareness to his program that offers students from low-income neighborhoods an opportunity to study theater.

Leon’s event called “True Colors Theatre Company: Blues in the Night” will take place Saturday evening at the Millennium Gate Museum in Atlanta. The well-known director is holding the event along with the cognac company, Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège.

Celebrities expected to attend the event are Samuel Jackson, Malik Yoba, Jennifer Holliday, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Frank Ski, Phaedra Parks and Jonathan Babineaux. Through the program, he hopes students can also explore African-American culture and improve their public speaking and reading comprehension skills.

Leon started True Colors Theatre Company in 2002.
