New Ford Fiesta price hike hits home: no more four-figure fun
The days of the four-figure new Ford Fiesta seem to be long gone, with the small hatchback now commanding a £13,395 starting price – due to the deletion of the two entry-level trims.
Why the change?
A Ford spokesperson said: ‘We’re launching Ka+ next month and that will available for under £10,000 (£8995 base price, £9995 for a Zetec), and what we didn’t want to see was cannibalisation of our own products.
‘Also, Studio and Style [the entry-level trims] only made up 3% of our sales mix, with the majority of customers opting for Zetec and Titanium trims, so we thought it made sense to make the Fiesta a bit more upmarket.’
Will any of this carry over to the next Fiesta?
The sixth-generation Fiesta has been around since 2008 and will soon be replaced by a larger and more expensive version, due to be unveiled later this year. Ford suggests that the new line-up will start with a Zetec trim level, too.
