Australian Justin Langer front runner for Team India’s head coach’s job

After parting ways with Zimbabwean Duncan Fletcher, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may now hand over Team India’s coach responsibilities to Australian Justin Langer.

Sources in the BCCI confirmed to ABP News that the former Australian cricketer is the front runner for the head coach’s job. “The Board is in talks with the Australian and hopefully something positive will come out of it,” a senior BCCI official said.

After Fletcher’s contract got over, there were rumours that the Board could zero in on some Indian coach, and even BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya had indicated that they would prefer an Indian over a foreign coach. But going by Langer’s impressive track record as a coach, the BCCI officials are now keen on roping him as the new coach. Interestingly, the former Australian batsman is also amongst top contenders for England coach’s job.

The sources, however, indicated that the a final decision on the head coach will only be taken before the tour to Sri Lanka. For the moment, Indian team will travel to Bangladesh under the supervision of Team Director Ravi Shastri.
