Huawei Maimang 4 is the G8 in China, powered by the Snapdragon 616

The version of the Huawei G8 expected to be available in China is reportedly known as the Huawei Maimang 4. The name isn’t the only thing different between the two devices. Unlike the G8, which is powered by the Snapdragon 615 SoC, the Maimang 4 has the Snapdragon 616 under the hood. The difference between the Snapdragon 615 and Snapdragon 616 goes to the core of the matter.

The Snapdragon 616 features four Cortex-A53 cores with a 1.7GHz clock speed, and four Cortex A-53 cores clocked at 1.2GHz. The Snapdragon 615 has the same four 1.7GHz Cortex A-53 cores. The difference is in the remaining four Cortex A-53 cores, which are clocked at 1.0GHz. Thus, one of the differences between the two chipsets is the slightly faster clock speed on the Snapdragon 616. The Snapdragon 616 also gives handsets more connectivity choices thanks to the X5 LTE World Mode modem, and also features Cat. 4 LTE speeds (up to 150Mbps).

The rest of the specs for the MaiMang 4 include a 5.5-inch screen carrying a 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution. Consumers have a choice between a version with 2GB of RAM inside with 16GB of internal storage (priced at the equivalent of $338 USD), or the version with 3GB of RAM inside with 32GB of internal memory (priced at the equivalent of $402 USD). On back of both models is a 13MP camera with OIS, and a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies and video chats. A 3000mAh battery keeps the lights on, and Android 5.1 is pre-installed. And yes, there is a fingerprint scanner on board.
