Delhi government asks discoms to maintain adequate power supply

 

 

To discuss the issue of unscheduled power cuts in the city, Delhi power minister Satyendra Jain held a meeting with the three power distribution companies here.

 

According to a senior official, in the meeting held at Delhi Secretariat, Jain said that the discoms should ensure there is no power shortage in the city. He also told the power discoms that a heavy fine will be imposed on them in case they failed to maintain adequate power supply.

 

With the representatives of the discoms telling the minister that there was no unscheduled power cut from their end, the government asked them to share their data with it.

 

Power department is keeping a close watch on the power Situation in the city, officials said, adding that, as the temperature rises, unscheduled power cuts are becoming more frequent.

 

“Penalty will also be imposed on discoms if power cuts happen due to local technical faults. They should work on strengthening their distribution channel,” a senior official said.

 

Delhi government has asked the power companies to inform residents in advance about the power cuts.

 

Power department officials said the peak demand in coming days can go up to 6,400 MW this season.
